Areas of Expertise
Counseling/Psychotherapy
Counseling is typically a more short term form of therapy that focuses on solving current problems or stressors. It is practiced when there is a particular symptom or problematic situation which needs addressed. Psychotherapy is generally considered a more long term mode of treatment and focuses on chronic mental health concerns. In psychotherapy, we look into the root cause of current problems to create lasting change.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
EMDR is a more structured form of therapy which utilizes set procedures to better organize positive/negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It is empirically supported and proven to be effective in treating trauma and PTSD symptoms. It has also shown positive outcomes in those who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, OCD, addiction, and depression.
Marriage & Family Therapy
Marriage and family therapy (MFT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on resolving issues within relationships and improving communication between family members. It helps couples and families understand their dynamics, address conflicts, and develop healthier interactions. The benefits of MFT include enhanced emotional support, stronger relational bonds, and the ability to navigate challenges together, ultimately leading to a more harmonious family environment.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a mode of therapy which combines cognitive behavioral therapy with traditional behavioral therapy. Clients learn to accept negative emotions as appropriate responses to stimuli. ACT utilizes mindfulness as well as self understanding to let go of concrete, inflexible thoughts and move forward through difficult emotions.
Sara Stengel, LCPC
When starting this practice, I felt a connection with the name Mountain View Mental Health. A connection sparked by a metaphor. Sometimes our mental health journey feels as though we are climbing a mountain. Alone and unprepared. We can be unsure which path to take.
This is where Mountain View Mental Health comes in. I aim to assist you on this journey. To guide and educate. To accompany. Not shout directions down to you, as you slip and stumble, but walk alongside you. Build you up. So you feel more empowered to reach that fulfilling mountain view, which often feels out of reach. My goal is for you to learn techniques and skills that assist you throughout your life and help you climb future mountains you will undeniably meet.

I view people as vastly diverse and complex. No two clients are the same. Each person having their own experiences, their own story, their own struggles and strengths. I love this about the work I do. I have the opportunity to meet each and every client where they're at, individually. I get to learn about them and what they need. Together, we will tailor a treatment plan best suited for you and begin your journey to a more fulfilled life.
I specialize in trauma work, depression, anxiety, and increasing feelings of self-worth. I am trained in EMDR therapy, a very powerful tool I utilize to assist in reprocessing negative core beliefs and accelerate healing. I am also certified as a supervisor within the state of Idaho and can assist other mental health clinicians in their practice and towards their goal of clinician licensure.
